Prior to being elected to the Texas House of Representatives, Rep. Alex Dominguez was elected to and served on the Cameron County Commissioners Court beginning June 2014. As a county commissioner, he worked on numerous budgets, hiring decisions, and hurricane preparedness. Rep. Dominguez along with county personnel worked tirelessly to create the first all-inclusive playground to the county parks system.
Rep. Alex Dominguez began his career as an educator in the Garland Independent School District where he taught for three years. He taught numerous subjects including ESL, Reading, English, and most importantly, Texas History.
Rep. Alex Dominguez earned his BA in Political Science from Rice University in Houston in 1993. There he was an avid member of the George R. Brown Forensics Society, Rice Players, and the Justice Court. After teaching, he earned his Juris Doctorate from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. He won numerous awards including the Mueller Award for the most outstanding oral advocate.
Rep. Alex began his legal career as a prosecutor in the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office. He quickly rose to become a felony prosecutor. After his time at the CCDA’s Office, he opened up the Law Offices of Alejandro Dominguez.
Rep. Alex was a board member of CASA of Cameron and Willacy Counties for six years. He was an advocate for volunteer advocates. Additionally, he has been a board member and president of the Los Diez Education Foundation for over 20 years helping to raise scholarship funds for first generation college students.
Rep. Alex is married to his wife, Jill. They have one son and two wonderful rescue dogs.
